Across the "Digital" Touchline: Fantasy Football *Week 22*

Catch up time...

There was a round of mid-week games for week 21 of Premier League Fantasy Football. Let's do a little back track on that week and then we will get into week 22 as titled.

My captain for week 21 as it has been for a while was Mohamed Salah. For only the second time this season and the first time since game week 4, Salah blanked with a score of 2. Not ideal. Even though some weeks he can turn the whole team score around, the rest of the team made up for his anomaly blank.

The other two blanks in the team were Jurrien Timber in the North London Derby, and Joao Pedro only got me 1 point agaist Ipswich. Was hoping for a bit more from the Brazilian forward. Even though Brighton won the game 2-0, he didn't score any points of meaning and also received a yellow card.

The stand out player this week was Alexander Isak. Bagging 2 goals and assisting Anthony Gordons goal. As he was the top point scorer in the game he picked up 3 bonus points, taking his bonus points tally up to 25 for the season. Not only is it a brilliant 16 point week, the Scandinavian is on a real role and rich vein of form. Scoring a brace against Wolves takes him to 8 consecutive games he has scored in. He surely has half an eye on Jamie Vardy's 11 game record when he over took Ruud Van Nistelrooly's record in Leicester City's title winning season in 2016. His next 3 games to take him level with the record are Bournemouth (Home), Southampton (Away), and Fulham (Home). I think he has a great chance of tying the record. The Geordies next game after that however is Manchester City (Away). Many teams have gone to The Etihad this season and come away with an unexpected point or three. With the title holders in such poor form this season anything could happen, as they have only kept 4 clean sheets all season, this could become The Magpies best chances at leaving the blue side of Manchester with a result. Therefore, maybe one of the best chances for Isak to get a goal there. We shall see.

The other three performers were ice cold Cole Palmer with a goal and bonus points against Bournemouth, Anthony Gordon claimed a goal, a clean sheet point and a single bonus point in the 3-0 win against Wolves. Lastly, Chris Wood kept his great season going scoring his 13th goal of the season; against Liverpool; also earning 3 bonus points.

In defence, Lewis Hall got what we came for and got the 4 clean sheet points. With the defenders I choose to play, this is all I'm asking for. Can you get the magic 6 points? 2 points for game time and the 4 clean sheet points. Anything else is a bonus. On the contrary, Antonee Robinson of Fulham got more points than Hall in the offensive side of the game. Even though Fulham conceded 3 goals against West Ham United, Robinson got 2 assists equalling 6 points plus the 2 game time points. Result!

In addition, Morgan Rogers got an assist for Ollie Watkins' goal in their 0-1 win away at Everton along with a clean sheet point. Matz Sels made 5 saves against Liverpool, giving him a saves point to go with his game time points.

A total of 73 points for my team, in a week that averaged 55. We moved up the Overall leader board. In my private leagues, even though we didn't move up any places in any 5 leagues, we got closer to second and third places. We're on the up!

Game week 22 starts with a bit of a slump.

Our star player and captain blanks two weeks in a row. Mohamed Salah blanked once in 20 game weeks. Only game week 4 did he score only 2 points. Now he's blanked twice in two weeks. Yeah this week he got the clean sheet point but that doesn't help us too much and with his highest of high standards we need more from him. Maybe I need to change my captain.

To who though? Alexander Isak's 8 game scoring streak has come to an end as Newcastle lose 1-4 at home to Bournemouth. The dream is over for this record to be broken for the first time since 2016. This also means that Lewis Hall didn't get me any clean sheet points. Luckily he was subbed off when The Magpies has only conceded 2 goals and he did get the assist to the only goal of the game week for the Toon Army. As Anthony Gordon wasn't the goal scorer on the end of Hall's assist, all 3 Newcastle players blank. I guess that's the risk you take when having 3 players from the same team. If that team has an off week, chances are you have 3 players with low scores.

I made a transfer going into this game week. Ben Johnson of Ipswich is out and in comes star defender Trent Alexander-Arnold. With the hefty price of £7.2. I'm taking a slight risk but if it doesn't show much reward after a few weeks we will sell him to maybe bring in a forward for Joao Pedro or a midfielder for Morgan Rogers. At the moment they are doing well for me, so we will assess in due time. Plus Liverpool have a double game week coming up in game week 24 so having 2 Liverpool players in the team maybe be a positive.

The new expensive signing of TAA pays off immediately. 11 points right off the bat with both defensive and attacking points. The whole reason why wing backs are a must over centre backs. The attacking points of a wing back can really stack up. Trent got a late assist in the game which gave him 2 bonus points as he also brings home the 4 clean sheet points I ask for from the defenders in the team.

Morgan Rogers blanks with only 1 point as he was booked in the difficult fixture against Arsenal. With him blanking twice in three weeks, I would be thinking of transferring him out yet the reason I think i won't is the Englishman's next three fixtures. As the difficulty rating for the next three games are all a 2 I will keep him to see what he can do against West Ham (Home), Wolves, (Away) and Ipswich (Home).

Chris Wood's phenomenal season continues. Stretching his consecutive games with a goal streak to 4. Still a way off the record or the season record of 8 from Isak, yet who saw that coming at the start of the season. A goal and an assist in Forests dominant win over a struggling Southampton gives him yet another 3 bonus points. That's 31 bonus points for the Kiwi this season alone.
As Forest march on, so does Ola Aina. A bit disappointed that The Tricky Trees were unable to keep a clean sheet against the team propping up the league. As I had doubled up at the back with Matz Sels. Anyway, like I've said before, the perks of choosing wing backs over centre backs is the frequency of attacking points too and Aina delivers with 3 points for an assist.

Cole Palmer was the last player to come in as Chelsea played in the Monday Night Football game. Palmer was a doubt for the game yet started the game anyway passing last minute fitness tests. From the way he played I think maybe he wasn't 100% fit but and the Englishman has been the player to pull the strings for Chelsea this season I'm pretty sure he's the first name on the team sheet so plays. Anyway, he blanked and hopefully he, Salah and Isak don't have another week of blanking.

Player of the week

His dad's name is Patrick and he scored a hattrick, Justin Kluivert. Yet another 3 goals for the dutchman after bagging a hattrick of penalties in November. Along with his assist, game time points and bonus he scored a massive 22 points. He's asking a lot of questions of the digital managers out there. Should he be in your team or is he not consistent enough with the points to replace someone already in your team?
